Cyber Parenting

Our children’s lives are immersed in technology; their music, social schedule, schoolwork, games and daily interaction rely on it. Not so long ago, we as parents could limit our kids’ exposure to the Internet, guiding them through the information they found and protecting them from predators, bullying and porn. But the goalposts have moved: devices are portable and access is possible 24/7.

Simone and James Boswell update parents on what they need to know about technology and how it impacts families. But more importantly, they discuss timeless parenting principles that help mums and dads teach their kids how to live out their faith online and stand firm when the physical and digital worlds collide.

Workshops and Seminars

James and Simone run practical workshops and seminars for community groups, schools and churches. We find that a minimum of two to two and a half hours is required to cover an overview of the key areas parents and teachers need to be aware of. More in depth seminars and workshops can also be constructed for those wishing to go deeper.

About Us

James and Simone live in Figtree, a suburb of Wollongong, NSW. They have been married for 25 years. They have six children, three girls and three boys. Madeline (20), Oliver (19), Rosemary (17), Elliot (15), Jemima (14), and Sebastian (11).

James has worked in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry for over 30 years. In that time he has performed commercial and academic research, designed and developed commercial hardware and software, been a university lecturer in Computer Systems Engineering, and the inventor on a number of US Patents. James is an independent IT contractor and consultant, and has worked for clients like Young and Well Cooperative Research Centre, which was established to explore the role of technology in the assessment and treatment of youth mental health.

Simone has a bachelor of Music Education and worked as a High School music teacher for eight years, before choosing to be at home full time with the children. She has homeschooled our six children for most of their school years, with the oldest ones going to school for years 11 & 12 (HSC). Simone still teaches piano students which she has been doing for thirty years.

James and Simone have been serving in ministry individually and together for as long as they can remember. They have run parenting classes together for over 15 years.

Simone has run Playgroups when the kids were little, and for ten years a GEMs mothers ministry (Godly Encouragement for Mums). She is currently a Scripture teacher, Girls Brigade leader, and plays piano at a church plant for international students. For many years she was the National Contact Mum co-ordinator for Growing Families Australia and still spends a good deal of time helping young mothers with their newborn babies.

James is a worship leader at our home church, Figtree Anglican Church, and is part of the leadership of the creative arts ministry team. He also co-ordinates the church’s Faithful Daily Read blog.

Together they still run parenting classes and speak at conferences and churches about many parenting topics, including cyber-parenting.
